I worked as a UI/UX Designer at Compleye for six months, leading the design of a web platform that helps organizations manage ISO 27001 certification and compliance workflows.

My role focused on translating complex compliance processes into intuitive product flows through research, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing.

Working closely with the founder, PMs, designers, and engineers, I helped take the product from 0 → 1, while also designing a scalable design system to support future platform growth.

<aside> 👉 I led the UX design of the platform from early discovery to high-fidelity prototypes. I conducted user research, mapped workflows, designed wireframes and interaction patterns, and co-ran usability testing to validate core product flows. I also created the platform’s visual system and component guidelines to support scalable product development.

A. Context:

The project was initially envisioned as a means to declutter the founder’s life and support Karolin Kruiskamp in managing her own customers and their various needs.

With a background of 25 years in organisational design and 15 years of experience in the Tech Start-up industry, Karolin has encountered her first compliance challenge in 2017.

The main pain points which we addressed were losing time in sorting through hundreds of documents and using different platforms for different small tasks.

Basically, spending more time piercing a lot of separate elements together instead of using the data to articulate solutions to the clients’ problems.

B. Problem:

The current workflow is fragmented across a value proposition overview, a Trello board for ISO standards, a multi-tab Excel compliance board, and a separate roadmap, making it difficult to manage and track progress.

C. Solution:

I partnered with cross-functional teams at Compleye to design an agile ISO 27001 compliance platform that centralizes operations, improves visibility and control, automates workflows, reduces compliance costs, and enables scalable, DIY compliance for growing companies.

D. Process:

I facilitated and participated in discovery workshops with the founder and stakeholders to understand the compliance workflow, identify pain points, and define initial product requirements and started formulating the core features for the Compleye platform. Prior preparation allowed us to outline a clear roadmap for the first half-year of the project, and we developed a clickable prototype in a design workshop. This prototype then evolved into an MVP, designed to streamline the compliance process for Compleye's clients by consolidating tasks on a single platform, eliminating the need for multiple tools.

The goal was simple yet ambitious: to make compliance easy and engaging. To accomplish this, we incorporated elements of gamification into the platform, creating an intuitive dashboard that presented valuable stats and insights. We crafted features to deliver instant operational value with a simple click.

1. Research & key insights:

Product strategy map

By mapping business objectives with user needs, we identified key opportunities to simplify compliance management. These insights informed the design of a centralized ISMS/QMS platform that improves transparency and reduces operational overhead.

Personas

Based on research findings, I developed two core personas - Jonathan, a time-constrained executive and Marie Curie, an operations-focused compliance lead. They shaped how the platform balances high-level clarity with deep workflow control.

User flows

I mapped multi-actor workflows that reflect how compliance officers and client stakeholders actually access and manage the platform. The flows clarify onboarding, company setup, access management, and collaboration paths - ensuring smooth handoffs between roles while reducing friction invite, registration, and workspace access.

2. Wireframes

To bridge the gap between research and UI, I developed adaptive wireframes focused on information architecture and flow efficiency. By utilizing Grid, List, and Detail patterns, I ensured the dashboard scales across varying data densities while maintaining a consistent global navigation. My goal was to reduce cognitive load through information hierarchy and progressive disclosure, prioritizing the most critical security data for the user.

🧠  Rationale:

Created a three-pane layout for deep-work sessions. Users can navigate the agenda in the center while simultaneously viewing specific 'Calls to Action' and 'Notes' on the right, keeping all necessary context in one view.

🖥️  Key feature:

Collapsible sidebar and nested agenda items to manage complex meeting structures.
